The generous contributions of these community-minded, local businesses help to make the Mount Prospect Garage Sale Weekend possible.
What is the Mount Prospect Garage Sale Weekend?
Since 1991, we have been sending our local real estate newsletter to over 5,000 central Mount Prospect homes. In 1993, a resident commented on how much she enjoyed visiting group/neighborhood garage sales around the northwest suburbs. She suggested that our Real Estate newsletter would be a great way to organize a similar sale in Mount Prospect. When we proposed the idea in the next issue, residents quickly signed up to participate. We have been organizing the annual group garage sale ever since.
What started as a small neighborhood garage sale has now blossomed into a major community event. Organized by Picket Fence Realty's Mount Prospect office, the garage sale has been expanded to include the entire village of Mount Prospect. Each participating homeowner holds their own garage sale just as they would at any other time of year. The difference is that thousands of shoppers are attracted to this large group sale, said to be the largest of its kind in Illinois.
This year's Garage Sale Weekend will take place on May 20, 21 & 22, 2016 (Fri.-Sun.). The hours will be from 9:00 a.m. to dusk. Neon "Mount Prospect Garage Sale" signs will be visible throughout Mount Prospect. The 2016 Mount Prospect Garage Sale Weekend include hundreds of participating homes.
Beginning in mid April, the Garage Sale map will be frequently updated to show the homes that are currently registered to participate. Not only will it show concentrations of garage sales, but it will also show specific blocks that may only have one garage sale—a potential goldmine. Printed maps will also be available at Picket Fence Realty in Mount Prospect see locator map and other Mount Prospect locations the entire weekend of the sale.
The concentrations of garage sales in the center of town reflect the areas that have participated in the annual garage sale the longest due to that original newsletter. Since 2002, all village resident have been invited to participate. As years go by, the rest of Mount Prospect will begin to participate on a grander scale.
